What is 'OrthoPraxia'?

Just as Orthodox means 'correct faith' or 'correct glory/worship' so OrthoPraxia means 'correct practice' or 'correct life' (ortho = correct or true; praxia/praxis = practice).

OrthoPraxia denotes the spirituality or spiritual tradition of the Orthodox Church that Orthodox Christians are called to live out every day. The Orthodox way of life is centered on constant repentance, and its ultimate aim or goal is Theosis (union with God, which culminates in the transformation of the individual in the likeness of God).

About the Press

What initially began as a YouTube channel that simply recorded classes taught at a local parish for parishioners who could not attend in person, OrthoPraxia Ministries gradually turned into an official publishing house on June 24, 2026 - a particular feast day very meaningful to our Founder.

Founder and Director of OrthoPraxia Press - Savvas Bournelis (M.DIv) - discovered through his personal experience of teaching courses in several Orthodox parishes during and after Seminary, that one of the areas many Orthodox Christians are confused about yet thirst to grow deeper in is spirituality. He encountered that some were still operating under a Westernized moralism that was completely bereft of any sense of the rich mystical and hesychastic spiritual tradition of the Orthodox Church. Additionally, the most challenging insight Savvas discovered was that many Orthodox Christians were unaware that the Orthodox spirituality is a constant way of life to be lived and experienced, and not to be compartmentalized to a Sunday-only affair or just to two times a year (Christmas and Pascha). The content of this Press is largely in response to those two needs of the faithful.

Savvas attempted to impart this transformative spirituality of the Orthodox Church through courses, talks, lectures, videography. In love with beauty, Savvas desired to deliver content that was both intellectually-stimulating as well as aesthetically-pleasing, which eventually evolved into Orthodox magazines.

After much prayer, self-reflection and conversation with trusted ecclesiastical leaders including his Spiritual Father and Confessor, our Founder took the next steps in fulfilling God's providential will by expanding his gifts and talents by establishing OrthoPraxia Press. Currently, we have four contributing writers, two design assistants, and several generous sponsors and doners in support of our publishing house whom we are very grateful to.

At OrthoPraxia Press, we are dedicated to offering a variety of literature primarily on Orthodox spirituality to both educate and inspire you to grow in the likeness of God every day of the year.

Welcome!
